Apple in Australia

Australia produced 293,731 t of apples worth A$680.2 million in the year to June 2024 (Hort Innovation). The main districts are the Goulburn Valley and Yarra Valley in Victoria, Batlow and Orange in NSW, Stanthorpe on Queensland's Granite Belt, the Adelaide Hills, Manjimup and Donnybrook in WA, and Tasmania's Huon Valley. Exports are small (2,562 t), so the domestic retail specification decides most pack-outs.

Apples are stored for months in cold and controlled-atmosphere rooms, so the value of a lot depends on room conditions, pressure and starch tests and when it is opened.
