According to a Cornell report, about 59 percent of restaurants fail within the first three years, which is a cumulative statistic that includes chain restaurants and independently owned restaurants. The good news is the food service industry is growing. From 2015 to 2016, Data USA estimates the restaurant employment rate grew by nearly 2 percent and is expected to grow by 0.6 percent over the next 10 years. Worldwide, the food and beverage industry is growing at a rate of 5 percent, according to Plant & Food Research.
